Follow the Growth

By Roger S. Conrad on Mar. 10, 2019

These are complex and volatile times for the stock market. But we still find a simple approach best for running the Conrad’s Utility Investor model portfolios:

  • Sell stocks of companies that are weakening as businesses.
  • Build a pile of cash by unloading weakening companies and taking partial profits on favorites that have run to unsustainable valuations. Keep cash in a vehicle that’s easily accessed, pays some yield and is protected from credit and interest rate risk, such as the Vanguard Intermediate Term Tax Exempt Fund (OTC: VWITX).
  • Build a watch list of high quality companies to buy when they hit designated entry points.
