Elections have consequences. And that goes double when you operate a heavily regulated essential services business.
For most US states and localities, 2019 has been an off year with few contested races to bring voters to the polls. That’s a major contrast with 2018 when 87 state legislative chambers held elections for 6,073 seats, two thirds of the states elected governors and voters chose a new US House of Representatives along with 35 senators.
That year, Democrats flipped the US House of Representatives while 8 governorships and 7 state legislatures changed party control. There were also 167 ballot measures in 38 states, 116 of which passed including four concerning fossil fuels and renewable energy.
